here is the story of a three-year-old chimpanzee
serving the cause of science
the little chimp has been carefully selected
thoroughly examined and patiently tutored
to help mankind discover whether living creatures
can survive travel in space
under the watchful eyes of airport scientists
sie holen ihn aus seinem kafig
er bekommt ein' helm aufgesetzt
kann kaum geradeaus sehen
traurig schaut er zu miss baker
sie raum' die startrampe frei
wahrend er weite empor steigt
er schaut nach unten aus dem fenster
kein dschungel und keinthoure stadt
er fuhlt sich alleine und so schwach
er lost sein gurt stosst sich ab
mittem im raum und hat zeit
die sterne im weiten all mit dem mond zu sehen
er erinnert sich an zuhaus'
ich weiss nicht was ich hier oben soll
so ohne tag und ohne nacht
mochte gar nicht so weit fort sein
ich hab alle knopfe und hebel gedruckt
alles gemacht was ihr sagt
alles wackelt alles gluht
die kapsel fallt und fallt weiter hinab
